When Hurricane Harvey flood waters poured into Houston. Overflow. When God’s people became the hands of feet of Jesus to serve and love our neighbors. Overflow. When we examined how generosity changes us and glorifies God. Overflow. And now, as we build for the future to serve current and future generations, OVERFLOW!
Take a journey with us to discover what’s in store in our new community space and kids building! Construction will take place just to the left of our current worship center, flowing around the circular drive to provide convenience and proximity for our families.
You’ll immediately notice the cross that stands tall, connecting the old building with the new. A covered drop-off area provides easy access with an additional lane for through traffic.
The Commons (Atrium Space)
A frontage wall of windows welcomes you into a sizable atrium space. This large area with polished concrete floors is designed as a community gathering area. The square footage will accommodate round-table seating for 250 people for events, receptions, meetings and other gatherings. On Sunday mornings it becomes relational space for conversation and community.
To your right is a coffee bar. You can help yourself to a hot cup of coffee, brew a cup of tea, or indulge in a specialty drink from our gourmet vending machine.
Opposite the café is the check-in area for the children’s building. Guest services is front and center to assist those visiting for the first time. Multiple stations are found to the right and left of the welcome desk to quickly and efficiently get children checked in for their classes.
Kids Building (First Floor)
Families move from the check-in area to the secured hallways where the classes are located. The entire first floor is set aside for our youngest churchgoers: the babies, toddlers and preschoolers. We’ll have quiet places and busy spaces to meet the needs of our sleepers, crawlers and tiny walkers. Moving down the hall you’ll see nursery space for infants, toddlers and 2-year-olds. There are six individual classes. Each set of two classes for toddlers and twos shares an interior restroom. Nursing moms also have a room set aside to watch the worship service while caring for their littles.
Preschoolers will even have their own worship space for live or video-led music and teaching! We’ll provide an interactive, fun, and safe environment as we communicate the love of Jesus in age-appropriate ways. Continuing down the back hall you’ll enter the area reserved for our preschoolers. The bright colors bring energy and excitement to our three and four-year old spaces. Each set of rooms shares an interior restroom designed especially for kids. Just outside these classroom walls is an outdoor playground designed for school-aged children.
The preschool play area is a large, indoor space with natural light for Sunday morning use, the Mother’s Day Out program, and other events and activities that take place throughout the week.
Kids Building (Second Floor)
As you head upstairs you’ll find the home for our kindergarteners through fifth graders. You’ll first enter a large open space – a welcoming area designed for gathering and community-building for older kids. A highlight upstairs is the Flight 45 space. This large, bright area is purposed for fourth and fifth graders to have fun and to build relationships; but most of all it’s designed for worship and Bible teaching for the oldest group in our kids building. The back hallway houses a classroom for our young friends with special needs along with rooms for first through third graders to learn more about Jesus.
Both floors of the kids building have sizable resource rooms and work spaces so our teachers can prepare for all the great activities and crafts we have planned! Kindergarten classrooms are found in the front hallway. As we once again approach the second floor landing you’ll see the kinder through third grade worship room. All the spaces in the kids building are designed to be fun and engaging!
The building which hosted our staff offices and adult classrooms prior to Hurricane Harvey is being renovated to fit our growing staff and campus class needs.
Once the work is completed, we’re excited to use the space for Bible classes, day-to-day ministry operations, and office space for likeminded ministries. We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with other Christ-centered organizations in our efforts to make Houston look more like Heaven!
We hope to open this space in early 2019.
The Lawn (Green Space)
The site of the original HNW building (most recently, the kids building) will be converted to a green space for outdoor events and recreation. Unfortunately, the building which stood here was beyond repair after flooding and had to be brought down, but we know ministry can still take place there! We envision a place where families can relax and play, students can study, and neighbors can get to know each other. It will also provide us space for things like outdoor concerts and other gatherings.
